Director’s Note

The poet Audre Lorde is quoted as saying, “It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences.” Among its many themes Beauty and the Beast is a musical that touches on the influence and effect of contrasting communities, finding fulfillment inside yourself, and overcoming obstacles — including those we place in our own way. That said, the message that has had the greatest impact on me is that of seeking to understand those around us who might be different, finding tolerance and love for such people, and rejoicing in the diversity that too often divides us. I am pleased to be a part of this fabulous musical at Skyridge High School, and I am blessed to work with such talented, kind, and wonderful students as those who are involved in this play. Thank you for coming, and enjoy the show!

John Brown

Story

Fall under the spell of this “tale as old as time” based on the Academy Award-winning Disney film. Dazzling production numbers, including the beloved title song and “Be Our Guest,” will making your heart soar.

The beloved fairytale recounts the story of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed into his former self. But time is running out. If those lessons aren’t learned soon, the Beast and his household will be doomed for all eternity.
